I need to look if I can borrow that little asian kid for a few days because he has deep pockets when it comes to useful gadgetry, and there are some ancient crystal skulls in Morocco I need to receive my hands on. Also and I need someone who can do gadgetry really good and to be my investment banker. Even though that kid is probably 80+ years old now, I bet he has a HUGE arsenal of gadgetry by now from, you know from every his years as a gadgetry-maker guy. And priority #1 will be to construct a superhuman extra layer of skin I could wear like coveralls. Resolved Question: And flickering candle ideas for a tiki hut out there?

I give up maybe someone out there has an idea I can use. I have 7 lanterns in a tiki hut, the opening below the bottom of each individual lantern has a hole of 1 and 1/2" diameter, they measure 3" tall. I would like to put flickering lights in each one, I know there are flickering candles, tea lights, battery operated (I don't want to have to turn each one off and on each time pain in the neck) and there are tapered candles (wont fit in lantens) I have also looked up solar lights to much wiring. There are flameless candle pool lights with timers built in but they are to tall and wide. There are also candles with built in solar panels built right in these wont' work they cannot charge because the lanterns are hung up inside the dark tiki hut roof........Any ideas would be appreciated. What would be nice is to have these flameless pool candles but very tiny......

I already have a solar system for my home....14 panels....it runs the home , but as soon as I turn on the pool pump the meter still runs backwards but at a 80% slower rate. I would still like to maintain the same amount of energy level . I would just want the pool pump to run on its possess solar power. How many panels would I need and what would the cost be? I don't have a heater for the pool and the pump is 1.5 hp? My pool is approxmently 15000.00 gallons ..98 linear ft

Resolved Question: How can we know for sure?

Just had an interesting experience. The two neighbors kids were here, playing with my son in the kids plastic pool. Then the girl (8) jumped in the little pool from the side and hit her solar plexus on the railing. (Sorry my English but it is my second language. ) She was hurt at least this is what she said and my husband had to carry her into the neighbors home. I saw my neighbor then packing the two kids into the car and I asked him what he is doing and if she is okay. He said he will go to the Emergency department in the nearby hospital so they can check her out. I was suddenly a bit scared and did run to his place as I wanted to check her out in the car. Please note I am not a doctor but I do emotional acupuncture therapy as additional approach in my work in the mental health area. Seeing her I at once "felt" that she was completely okay but I tapped some acupuncture points. Then as they wanted to steer I walked away and she started to make a drama, how bad she feels and so on but I could not "feel" that she feels bad. Okay I just saw the car driving in and I gave my neighbor a phone call a few minutes later and he said that she is "perfectly" okay, nil wrong, she is just a drama queen. How could I be so sure? Is this a silly question? I already said that she is alright, what wonders me is why I knew it in my heart although she was crying and pumping as if she did not receive enough air. I felt she was perfectly okay. ................... This is probably this empath phenomenon again. She is okay as she was in hospital and got a thorough check up from several doctors. -:)

Resolved Question: Can older parents cause as much mutation in the gene pool as solar radiation does already?

Given that older parents contain more genetic errors within themselves than younger parents do (if I understand aging properly) and based on studies that risk of birth defects seems to increase as the parents age, might older parents in every species be a significant driving force in Evolution? Since Evolution depends absolutely on mutation and the passing-on of mutated genes, I just wondered if it seemed likely that older (and presumably wiser, more experienced and generally more fit) parents passing on their naturally (?) damaged or un-repaired genes might be as strong a cause of mutation as solar radiation. Interested in your thoughts. A little worried the question seems naive... I'm not really making a distinction between bad and good mutation. I'm also not asking this from a eugenic point of view (advocating tardy pregnancies to advance evolution!) just thought that the older the individual of any species, the better they are at rearing and passing on learned skills etc. to the young... every kinds of advantages but a big drawback in the genetic lottery... Among species that maintain multi-generational ties, like us, I guess the offspring would receive the best of both worlds, I just don't think there are many species like that...

Resolved Question: Solar parabolic dish collector for heating the water almost every day. Take a look?

So, I know you can't heat your home to efficient in winter with this system, but I'm pretty sure you can heat your water for bath, kitchen or for a pool. Resolved Question: I'm thinking of buying a pool solar cover and then cutting it into a few pieces to make it easier to deal with?

My pool is a modified kidney shape. It is approximately 15' across its largest width and 28' across its largest length. The idea of using a solar cover to both heat and keep heat in the Florida winter is worrisome to me when I recall how easy the covers are to rip and how difficult it is to deal with a big one (I used to have a 28' round and it was difficult to roll up). So I thought maybe I could clip it into thirds. However, the worry is that maybe separate sections would be blown over each other and not stay in their positions. Having a mis-shapened kidney makes me think it would self-enforce positioning, but smaller width sections could be forced to flow into a larger space, if the edges of the cover don't sort of block each other. So - has anyone already dealt with separate sections of solar cover ? And do they blow into and over each other ? Or do they stay separated ? thanks Charlie

Resolved Question: Best way to heat a large paddling pool without using a heater?

Got a 2500 litre pool, the water is very icy even on hot days. I use a solar pool cover, this only seems to make the top of the pool warm. I have a younger relative coming round tomorrow to go in the pool, I went in today and found it too icy to stay in more than 10 minutes. I cant afford a heater, usually i tip in a few buckets of hot water and boiling water from the kettle, this doesn't seem to make much difference but im gonna try that in the morning and use more buckets. Is there anything else I can do? No matter how weird the idea is im willing to try it, ive even thought of filling a load of bottles with hot water and letting them float around until they receive icy!

Power costs are making news across the country and over three years bills have increased an average of 12 per cent in most states. St Vincent de Paul's energy analyst Gavin Dufty releases his forecast for power prices next week. Carbon pollution policy will increase the average bill by $200, the introduction of smart meters will add another $80 and what are know as dynamic tariffs could boost that by another $200. "Expect to look the biggest prices increase, or the start of the price increases in Victoria and then we'd probably suggest Queensland and then followed by New South Wales," Gavin said. There is not much we can do about what the power companies charge so we are being encouraged to control what we use. Anne Armansin is employed by Origin Energy to show customers how to reduce electricity consumption. "We can every do something about it," she said. "I have noticed over the decade that people are willing to if they do receive a high bill they'll call and say help us." Some easy options involve changing behaviour, so for every degree an air-conditioner will use 10 percent more electricity and even after it has been turned off by the remote it is sucking power. Every appliance on standby 24/7 can chew up to 15 watts of electricity. It soon adds up. "There are about 27 appliances in the average home that use standby power and it amounts to about 800kw of wasted power a year," Anne said. That amounts to $160 a year. If we every turned off our appliances at the switch across the country we would keep enough power to run every home in Western Australia. There are gadgets to help, power boards that clip standby power by turning off one appliance. Anne said our most power hungry consumers are Generation Y. "They're filling their rooms with big screen TVs, games and high powered computers and they have a lot of fun," she said. Ed Parker is one person who is being careful and has gone from power consumer to power generator. Photvoltaic solar panels produce more power than his family can use so instead of getting $300 bills every quarter, he is getting $300 cheques. "We're actually returning better that 7-8 per cent on that extra investment," he said. The pool filter is another power-hungry device. It runs eight hours a day and in winter it does not have to. "You can drop it down to either four or two hours depending on what your pool supplier tells you," Anne said. Then there is the hot water. pick an off peak tariff for your hot water system. Switch to solar if you can or an energy efficient heat pump. Energy saving tips 1. Switch appliances off at the wall or receive standby power saving power boards. 2. Use fans instead of air-conditioning, they use one-tenth of the power. 3. Replace old light bulbs with efficient globes.

Resolved Question: Sticker text etc has worn off on pool pump/filter stickers?

We have an inground swimming pool. It has a filter and pump and solar panel water heaters. However- every of the stickers have worn off showing what direction the valvs need to be turned in order for certain things to work (ie what jets work in the pool etc... if the top skimmer is on or the bottom filter on the floor of the pool). How the heck can we figure out what does what? The sticker on the actual filter is fine (so we at least know where to turn it to backflush it etc..) but the pump and the filter each have 2 pvc pipes running into them- and they are controlled by one valve per pair.. and we don't know what is what. How can I find out?
